Power Up: A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Jump Start Your Car

A dead battery can bring your day to a halt, but knowing how to jump start your car is a valuable skill that can save you time and money. What You’ll Need:

1. Jumper cables:
   • Choose a set of quality, heavy-duty jumper cables with sufficient length to reach between vehicles.
2. Another vehicle with a working battery:
   • Enlist the help of a friend, family member, or a Good Samaritan with a car and a working battery.

Step 1: Ensure Safety First

Before attempting to jump start your car, prioritize safety:

• Park both vehicles in a safe location:
  • Choose a flat and well-ventilated area away from traffic. Engage the parking brakes on both vehicles.
• Turn off ignition and accessories:
  • Turn off the ignition and all accessories (lights, radio, air conditioning) in both vehicles.
• Identify positive and negative terminals:
  • Familiarize yourself with the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on both batteries.

Step 2: Connect the Jumper Cables

4. Remove the red (+) cable from the formerly dead battery:
