Safety First: 2016 Ford F-150 named IIHS Top Pick
Safety is a major concern when building Ford trucks. We all know that Ford aims to develop the safest trucks on the market. In April of this year, that goal was realized!
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew as a Top Safety Pick. The SuperCab configuration was chosen as well!
A group of Ford truck veterans worked many long hours to engineer a truck with the improved durability, safety and capability expected by Ford drivers. This team set out on their mission and developed 31 safety-related changes. These innovations include structures that manage crash forces. The joining methods were virtually tested with supercomputer simulations. The trucks were then retested in Ford’s advance laboratories. This re-testing ensures that Ford produces the safest F-150 ever.
Class-leading crash test performance of the new Ford F-150 is enabled by the use of high-strength steel in the frame. There is high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy in the body. Smart engineering also helps to save 700 pounds of weight. This enables best-in-class ratings for towing. The payload and gasoline fuel economy is also tops!
Ford Executive VP of Global Product Development and CTO Raj Nair had this to say about the honor:
“From the moment our team set out to design and build the new F-150, we knew it had to be best-in-class…This Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick is another example of Ford’s commitment…”
He continued by saying “The same innovative approach applied to every other attribute of the 2016 F-150 is exemplified in our commitment to safety…” He went on t0 say that Ford has spent thousands of hours engineering and developing the multiple safety features. These features work together in the event of an accident.
F-150 is the only full-size, light-duty truck to earn National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s highest rating. It has earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score! The F-150 has a five-star rating for driver and passenger for all crash test modes and cabs – SuperCrew, SuperCab and Regular Cab.
