How to Get Stickers Off a Car Body

When removing stickers from the body of your vehicle, the biggest concern is avoiding paint damage. Make sure you have the following products on hand:

  • Car wash soap
  • Plastic card (library card, membership card, etc.)
  • Tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive
  • Hairdryer
  • Clean, dry towels

When you’re ready, these instructions on how to get stickers off a car body are your path to a sticker-free, damage-free existence:

  1. Clean the sticker and the area around it with the car wash soap.
  2. Turn your hairdryer to hot, and direct the airflow toward the sticker for a few seconds, about 2 to 3 inches away from the surface. Make sure to heat the entire area.
  3. Take your plastic card and maneuver it beneath the edge of the sticker. As the adhesive residue lifts, slowly peel the rest off.
  4. Repeat the heating and peeling process as necessary, until the entire sticker is removed. The sticker may come off in chunks rather than whole.
  5. If a layer of residue remains after removing the sticker, you now need to know how to remove sticker residue from a car. The process is simple: take your cloth, apply some tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive, and wipe gently until the residue is gone.

  2. Wash the sticker residue using your towel, dish soap, and hot water until it begins to dissipate. If successful, you’re good to go!
  3. If sticker residue remains, scrape the residue with your razor blade until it lifts.
  4. At this point, if residue remains, rubbing alcohol should do the trick. Apply to a paper towel and scrub the residue away. Rinse with a towel and water when you’re done.
